General Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for dealing directly with patients and scheduling

appointments and outpatient tests.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the checking out of patients and scheduling appointments and out-patient testing.

  • Responsible for checking with all Insurance Companies for PA's needed for test ordered.

  • Promptly and professionally answers telephone calls. Routes calls appropriately, offering voice mail, paging, or redirection of calls as needed.

  • Checks to make sure the correct ICD-10 code information for procedures ordered and diagnosis codes are accurate and reflect on the forms and the charges.

  • Verifies and completes charge information in EMR and various Insurance databases.

  • Timely processes and distributes the appropriate paperwork to various facilities in order to expedite tests and procedures on behalf of the patients.

  • Work closely with Physicians.

  • Has a good understanding of working within an electronic format in healthcare.

  • Maintains required billing records, reports, files, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of computer systems (such as Electronic Medical/Health programs) and spreadsheet applications.

Skills:

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

  • Skill in time management and organization.

Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all business/work information.

  • Ability to effectively work with others.

  • Ability to use multi-line phone system, including transferring calls and paging.

  • Adequate hearing to answer phone and speak with patients.

  • Ability to speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard by callers and patients.

  • Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of two years in a healthcare organization.
